A McMinnville man has been killed by his own hunting rifle as he drove his pickup truck.Rutherford County Sheriff's investigators said 31-year-old Joseph Lyle was found bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head after his pickup truck ran off the Manchester Highway early Thursday.
The Daily News Journal quoted a statement by Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin of the sheriff's office, who said witnesses told officers they heard a gunshot, then the truck ran off the road. read more

Apparently there are perks to being the Chattanooga Po-Po
Chattanooga Police Det. Kenneth Freeman will not face charges in an incident in which he shoved a 71-year-old greeter at the Wal-Mart in Collegedale to the floor after he tried to stop him while doing a receipts check.Collegedale Police declined to bring charges, then the employee, Bill Walker, filled out a complaint himself. Collegedale Judge Kevin Wilson has reviewed the complaint and did not issue an assault charge.
In the incident on Christmas Eve, Mr. Walker said an alarm went off when Det. Freeman and another city police officer, Edwin McPherson, were leaving the store.
He said he reached to try to stop Det. Freeman and he was pushed against a soft drink machine and to the floor. He said the officer then hovered over him as he lay on the floor.
A police report says a customer then told Det. Freeman, "You can't push down an old man" and began struggling with him. It says Det. Freeman then shoved that man, Gholom Ghassedi, through a glass door. Officers found Mr. Ghassedi with blood on his neck, but he declined medical treatment.
Sgt. McPherson broke up the fight between Det. Freeman and Mr. Ghassedi. read more...

A St. Louis man finds out the hard way that jokes about shoe bombs on planes will not be tolerated.Michael Shafermeyer spent more than three days in jail after making what he says was a joke at Lambert Airport on Saturday. He tells KMOV-TV that he was flying to Maryland to get married and had a few drinks.
When a flight attendant asked him to close his laptop after boarding, Shafermeyer says he jokingly asked her, "Are you the one who checks for shoe bombs?"
Within minutes, federal agents removed him from the plane. He spent much of his time in the St. Louis County jail in solitary confinement. read more...

A man who plied a dog with Stella Artois lager has received the first ever conviction for getting a dog drunk.Andrew Wilson, 31, of Bristol, gave American bulldog Bronx a can of Stella Artois beer and was accused of forcing him to drink vodka before giving the hound a beating.
By the time he was found he was over the drink drive limit for a human, it has been reported. read more...

CHICAGO (STNG) -- A South Side man has been charged with drug possession after Chicago Police stopped him for allegedly driving the wrong way down a one-way street.Samuel Randall, 27, of the 12000 block of South Lafayette Avenue, was charged with possession of cannabis and driving the wrong direction on a one-way street where signs are posted, according to a Chicago Police release.
Officers patrolling the area near Randall’s home allegedly saw him driving his 2004 Pontiac sedan the wrong direction on a one-way street about 3 p.m. When police stopped the car and arrested Randall when officers noticed two clear plastic bags with cannabis in a cup holder, the release said. read more
