Clearly this guy doesn't keep up with the news.

The lawyer for a Jamaican man who held Canadians hostage last spring aboard a CanJet flight bound for Halifax told CBC News Thursday night that his client didn't feel he was doing anything wrong.

George Thomas, speaking from Kingston, Jamaica, said he had expected the judge to find Stephen Fray not guilty because of mental illness.

"I was expecting what the law says in a situation like this, that he did not know what he was doing at the time of the incident, he did not believe that it was illegal," Thomas said. Read more...

A leadership class? Really?

A 17-year-old student is seeking counseling after her class at Pulaski County High School watched a short film that showed beheadings and other violence allegedly committed by Muslims, her father said Tuesday.

Bill Cruey said his daughter Amber was horrified by images of children being injured and dead bodies interspersed with readings from the Quran while watching the film "Fitna," made by the anti-Islam and anti-immigration Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders. Jacked up on so many levels.

Cook County sheriff's police said they seized nine mutilated and abused dogs this week from a dog-fighting ring operating out of a Maywood day care home.

Sheriff Tom Dart said his officers found a dog with its eye ripped out, a dog with a leg twisted backward and a dog with its lower extremities nearly ripped off its body in their raid Tuesday.

"Kids were playing on a swing set just 10 feet away from a vicious fighting dog and blood-stained floors," Dart said while cuddling a puppy taken during the raid. "The very equipment used to train these dogs to kill was being kept in the garage right behind the house. To be engaged in this sort of activity is disturbing enough, but to take a chance with anybody's children is reprehensible." Read more...

Drug bust...Wii Bowling...all in a night's work.

With guns drawn and flashlights cutting through darkened rooms, Polk County undercover drug investigators stormed the home of convicted drug dealer Michael Difalco near Lakeland in March.

As investigators searched the home for drugs, some drug task force members found other ways to occupy their time. Within 20 minutes of entering Difalco's house, some of the investigators found a Wii video bowling game and began bowling frame after frame. Read more...
