This week on Beer for Breakfast Brewmaster Paul Segura breaks down the hype behind the yearly release of Pliny the Younger from Russian River Brewing. Every February Russian River Brewing releases their Triple IPA Pliny the Younger to select accounts around San Diego. Some bars and tap rooms let patrons know ahead of time when they plan to tap this once a year release, others release it stealthily and you have to be paying attention to their social media or be at the right place at the right time.
Pliny the Younger is not released in bottles unless you go to the Santa Rosa or Windsor pubs so the Beer for Breakfast team sampled STS Pils & Pliny the Elder. STS Pils is a classic German-style pilsner with an ABV of 5.35% and has a dry, bitter finish. Pliny the Elder Double IPA has an ABV is 8% and is brewed with Amarillo, Centennial, CTZ, and Simcoe hops. It’s said that Pliny the Elder is available year round unlike its nephew Pliny the Younger.
