The Silent Comedy is a San Diego-based group of musicians mixing Americana, Folk and Rock n’ Roll into a sound that is best understood by experiencing their live show. Brothers Joshua and Jeremiah Zimmerman started the band to capture the feeling of the bar culture they worked in and the revival meetings they grew up attending. The outcome is an experience that has been described as “a whiskey tent revival.”
The Silent Comedy took to the road immediately after their first show and have continued to build on that tradition. The brothers’ father was a preacher who sold everything the family owned to travel the world, an experience that shapes the lyrics and DIY ethic of the group. The band is made up of Joshua (bass/vocals) and Jeremiah Zimmerman (keys, vocals, guitar) together with their cousin Chad Lee (drums) and long time friend Justin Buchanan (mandolin/banjo). The band has roots in the craft beer and cocktail scene in California that have added to the rowdy reputation of their live shows. What started as a loyal base of bartenders and beer brewers has grown to a community of dedicated fans all over the world.
Their last album, Common Faults, was self released and sold over 14,000 copies. The band recently worked with Dave Matthews Band’s Boyd Tinsley on an improvisational film/music project entitled “Faces in the Mirror.” This led to The Silent Comedy opening for DMB at The Gorge in Washington state in 2011 and 2012.
Through placement in projects such as Hatfields & McCoys, starring Kevin Costner, and the History Channel’s original series The Men Who Built America (to name a few), The Silent Comedy has been able to reach an even larger audience that is growing with each shot of whiskey.
